BMO Vancouver Marathon May 1, 2011

I'm excited and I can't believe I'm going to be running my first full marathon this year!

The first thought of it scared me. I almost was convinced not to do it. When I talked to other people about their thoughts about it, some comments were:

"that can't be good for your knees"
"that's tough!"
"I can't imagine running for more than 4 hours!"

I actually never liked running before and at times I just did it just to get some exercise in my daily life. I couldn't run for more than 10 minutes. However, I was inspired one day by my friend Yvonne...she asked "Do you want to run the Sun Run with me?" As much I wanted to resist and feared that I would not be able to fully run that distance, I agreed. Since then, I've run the 10K Vancouver Sun Run and a 1/2 Marathon and continue to run at least 10K once a week. Now here I am training for a full Marathon 1 year later. This runner's high is a good addiction!

With my amazingly committed running buddies Yvonne and Mike, we are currently training to run the full BMO Vancouver Marathon this year Sunday, May 1, 2011.  We are so amazingly committed that we've been running in the pouring rain, snow, at 6:30am in the morning and one 10K+ run a week. I couldn't do this without them! Their attitude is just like what Nike says "Just do it!"

If you are interested in running, I totally recommend and encourage it. I have a lot more energy these days since I've started running. If it's rainy or gloomy out, my mood is no longer affected by the weather. It's actually better conditions for running as it keeps you cool while running and you totally feel refreshed after the run. I feel that I'm in the best shape and more motivated than I've ever been in my life!

In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, 'I have finished.' There is a lot of satisfaction in that."

01.20.11 - 6:30am - Proof that we ran in the snow!
